The drive from the badlands area to the black hill forest was very refreshing. After many days in what was a very barren and desolate landscape the change was welcome. I love a little greenery along with my mountains and the landscape changed to bring exactly that. Pine trees, greenery, rolling hills, and jagged rock formations made for a lively view. I wound up parking and get a straight view of the monument from my space. The monument itself is amazing and when you read about the history of how it was built it becomes even more amazing! Very beautiful and definitely felt the patriotism and pride gazing upon our forefathers. One of the things I enjoy most about visiting some of the “touristy” places I have visited is taking people’s pictures. I see couples or groups of people together taking each other’s pictures in front of a scene and offer to take the together. They are always very thankful and it gives me a chance to exchange a few kind words with people from other places. Spread the love!
